The Alpha Style, or Alpha Style Ocean, comes in two variants; the 80 FF and the 80 OF. Internally they are very similar but they have a different control knob layout. The FF has space for an optional clock but unlike the OF it lacks a piezo pilot ignition button. Instead, the boiler is lit by depressing the gas control valve. As well as a piezo ignition, the OF can be recognised by its illuminated on/off switch. Alpha/Ocean Style boilers are wall mounted, fan assisted, room sealed combination boilers that have a permanent pilot light and a binary HIGH/LOW gas valve. For central heating, they provide 11.7 kW to 17.6 kW (40,000-60,000 Btu/h), and for hot water a maximum of 23.4 kW (80,000 Btu/h). Because they lack continuously variable gas valves, they sometimes have problems with modern mixer taps or shower mixer valves. Alpha sold the Ocean boiler design to Baxi which still uses some of its design features today. However, the Alpha versions were extremely well built and many originals are still in service. Being fairly old however, it is becoming difficult to source some of the replacement parts for them. Fortunately, we still have enough to keep many going a few more years. Our Alpha boiler spares for the Alpha Style boilers include safety cut-off valves, gas valves, pressure sensors, microswitch assemblies, thermocouples, thermostats, spark electrodes, and seal kits. If you need a pump, pressure gauge, heat exchanger, brackets or other spare parts you don’t see listed, please call us to check for you. Be aware that if the o-ring seals in these boilers are perished they are inclined to leak when the pipework is disturbed to replace other parts - for example the diaphragm. It is a good idea to order some replacement seals when you buy other Alpha boiler spares.
