Batteries
If you think batteries have become expensive in recent years, you have come to the right place. We can supply top quality batteries for a fraction of the prices charged by unscrupulous high street outlets and supermarkets.
The triple-A or AAA battery supplies a voltage of 1.5volts and is the size used in many small low-current devices such as TV infra-reds, game controllers, portable sound and digital cameras. The AAA battery is also sometimes designated as an R03, or UM4. If you're in doubt as to the battery you need, check the dimensions. An AAA battery is always 10.5 mm in diameter and 44.5 mm in length (including the height of the terminal on the top). Don't confuse them with the similar but larger AA battery (14.5 mm by 50.5 mm).
The standard 9v battery is a small rectangular battery with both terminals on the same end. The PP3 9v battery was originally designed for the pocket-sized transistor radios that boomed in popularity in the 1960s. For that reason, some people still call them "transistor batteries", however, the 9v battery is more familiar today in smoke detectors, battery-powered clocks and electrical children's toys.
As the name suggests, the 6v torch battery, or lantern battery, is mainly used in powerful torches and emergency lights. A 6v torch battery is a rectangular box 68.2 mm square and 115 mm high. The 6v torch battery has spring terminals, both at the same end.
Please dispose of batteries safely in the bins provided in libraries and chemist shops.
