Shower Pumps

Shower pumps are a specialist electrically-driven solution primarily used to increase the volume, pressure, and flow rate of the water that emerges from the shower head.

All shower pumps have the same key parts and work on the same basic principle. The primary components are the motor and the impeller/s. There are a wide range of shower pumps on the market, the principal types being single impeller, twin impeller, positive head, and negative head.

Single impeller shower pumps have one impeller and can, therefore, only pump one water feed. They are usually used to pump hot water to a mixer shower that has an existing cold water mains supply.

Twin impeller shower pumps are designed to pump hot and cold water at the same time to generate an equal flow. These are most effective when used with thermostatic or manual mixer showers.

Positive head shower pumps utilise gravity to move the cold water from the tank to the pump and kick-start the impellers. In order to work, the top of the shower must be at least 600mm below the cold water tank. These are the most common shower pumps in modern homes.

Negative head shower pumps are not reliant upon gravity, making the position of the water tank and the shower of less importance. These are commonly found in flats or loft conversions.

Here at Heating and Plumbing World, our selection includes shower pumps from Stuart Turner, an internationally recognised and highly-regarded provider of water boosting solutions for a range of applications.

Stuart Turner shower pumps include the Monsoon range and the Showermate range. The Monsoon pumps are available in single or twin models and are suitable for positive head applications only.
